For quite some time, I have been thinking about quitting the
rat race and moving to more idle pastures, doing what I like doing the best –
drinking coffee! Well, drinking coffee alone will not get me the mullah, so I
am wondering about setting up my own coffee shop. I would like to share this
dream with you and may be you can motivate me to actually take that leap!
Here’s what my dream looks like – a quaint little shop in
the corner of a nice street. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, comfortable
seats, a big library of books that people can choose to read while sipping on
the coffee, melodious songs playing the background… This will be a place where
you will not want to look at the clock! This is a place where you would want to
unwind after a long day at work. This is a place where you know the café staff
by their names and they know your favorite orders.
The menu will give you a plethora of choices in coffee but
you won’t find flavoured coffee. No Hazelnut or vanilla flavoured coffees will
be available in my store. I mean, if you want to get honey flavoured coffee,
order for honey! Why do you want to mix it with coffee and spoil the taste of
both?
But to make this dream come true, I need the money, the
place and a tool that can help me manage my inventory listing, employee records
and the works! This is the harsh reality that I wake up with. I need a tool
that can be accessed from anywhere, where data is not lost, tool that is
inexpensive (I will be spending most of my savings on the rent and inventory).
I am hoping that Microsoft Office 365 (http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/)
is one such tool. When I read about it, I thought that atleast this end of my
dream is taken care of. This version of Office can be installed on more than
one PC, so I need to buy only one package for my café and home! It also gives
me an option to save documents online which means that I will never lose data
and can access my documents from anywhere in the world! I do not need to be in the
café all day long… I can store my files online and share them with other users
whenever I wish to.
Also, with the new Powerpoint, I will be able to impress
some financers and get them to invest in the business. The Presenter View feature in the new Office
365 automatically adapts to your projection set-up and you can also use it on a
single monitor. This will really be useful while making presentations to a
large group of people and my marketing team can really make use of this
feature.
Well, looks like I am ranting about my dream a little too
much. It’s a distant dream – a place filled with joy and smelling of good
coffee. A place where everything seems easy; to both – customers as well as
employees!
I am investing in your cofee shop :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, So I would be coming there to drink cofee!
ReplyDeleteYay.. I have my investor and customer!
ReplyDeleteI suggest open a place like that close to a beach!!!!! and u wont need much of an investment but rather a lot of time too handle those many enthusiastic customers!
ReplyDeleteNice post Prerna.
ReplyDeleteMy coffee shop is getting shape slowly. Its actually by the beach in Chennai's famous OMR Road. Very nice place. In another 4-5 months should be getting done.
