Coffee and Love

I am back with more coffee memories. This time the romantic ones. All those who know me, know that I can have coffee in any form and the person closest to me put this to test. Well, Rahul and I have know each other for almost 6 years now. We have had our shares of ups and downs in the relationship which started off as just classmates and went through each level of friendship to convert into a beautiful relationship of love.
In college, we bonded over “chai”. Yes, that’s the first time you hear me mention chai but whenever there is no good coffee available around me, I end up having a cup of adrak-wali chai. We used to go up to the chai stall near college with our group of friends and Rahul would have idlis and I would drink Chai. Soon college got over but our friendship just grew.  We became best friends in no time.

Coffee then started playing its role in our lives. Rahul and I got our first jobs in different fields – he in Finance (yeah I know!! BORING FINANCE ;)) and I got into branding. But the difference in job roles wasn’t our problem. The real concern was the timing. He used to work Night Shifts in Powai while I worked normal 9 to 6 in Vikhroli. We started meeting at Vikhroli CCD once every two weeks – me, after shift and he, before his. The meetings were always over a cup of coffee. We would talk about our dreams, our desires, our lives – present and future.  These sessions went on for 2 years. Coffee witnessed our love grow.

We finally decided to move onto to the next step of our relationship, afraid that if something goes wrong, we will lose such good friendship. But anyways we decided to risk it. The decision was witnessed by a Subway sandwich and not coffee (which is probably why we were so unsure ;) ). We started meeting each other often for coffee. The more coffees we had, the more we overcame our fears. Every cup of coffee helped us realize that we are not losing our friendship instead the relationship is just growing strong with time.

Soon came Valentine’s Day. Our first Valentine! This time, the tables were turned – I was working night shifts while Rahul was back to studies, pursuing his MBA. Having gone to the shift on 13th February, Rahul and I had planned to meet up for lunch on V-Day since evening dinners were out of question with office and all that. I get a call from Rahul at 2:30AM while I am finishing off my work and preparing to leave in half hour. He asks me if I could leave early from work and I retort saying that there is only half hour to go! I had absolutely no clue that he is waiting for me at my office gate. He tried to talk me into leaving early without ruining the surprise but when I acted like a pea-brain, he had to give up and tell me that he was waiting for me! I am sure I squealed with excitement cause I remember my manager asking me what the deal was. I told him that I am leaving early, picked up my bag and left.
I reach the gate, half running, half walking and find him waiting for me with my favorite flowers in his hand. He opens the car door for me to get in (I have never seen such chivalry in him!) and there on the seat is cake. In less light, it looked like a normal chocolate cake. He asks me to cut the cake and gives me the first bite – It’s Tiramasu Cheesecake with a strong coffee flavor, specially made-to-order! I leap with joy and keep eating the cake (forgetting Rahul standing next to me, waiting for a piece of cake!) Finally I realize that he’s here and give him a piece. Once again, coffee brings a smile to my face. We go for a small drive, eating coffee-flavoured cake, enjoying each other’s company. He drops me home, urging me to take the remaining cake with me. The day ends with a smile on my face and I wake up to a Tiramasu Cheesecake breakfast, awesome lunch with Rahul and went back to the grind with happiness!

Rahul made the V-Day memorable and coffee played its role! I could not have asked for anything more in my life – Rahul and Coffee make a perfect combination to keep me happy! Love you both!! <3

Why Ramayan is the worst story ever!

So it’s been a while since I have been thinking about this and finally decided to pen down my thoughts. This began on the day of Dussesrah when I was busy getting celebratory/festive wishes on Whatsapp. I was thinking about the popular, shorter version of the story of Ramayan and how warped it is.  So Ram, playing the ideal son, decided to give up his kingdom keeping in mind the insecurities of his step-mother; which is cool. But, did he discuss it out with Sita first? No! He just played the perfect   son, making his parents proud. Poor Sita! She just heard the decision taken by her husband and like a good wife (who may or may not have wanted to escape living with her in-laws) she followed Ram into a life of self-exile. That wasn’t enough when Ram’s younger brother, Lakshman decided to follow him. Again, there’s no one knows of his wife Mandavi, who decided NOT to follow her husband into the forest and live in the kingdom with her new family. May be she thought l...

My Coffee Dream

For quite some time, I have been thinking about quitting the rat race and moving to more idle pastures, doing what I like doing the best – drinking coffee! Well, drinking coffee alone will not get me the mullah, so I am wondering about setting up my own coffee shop. I would like to share this dream with you and may be you can motivate me to actually take that leap! Here’s what my dream looks like – a quaint little shop in the corner of a nice street. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, comfortable seats, a big library of books that people can choose to read while sipping on the coffee, melodious songs playing the background… This will be a place where you will not want to look at the clock! This is a place where you would want to unwind after a long day at work. This is a place where you know the cafĂ© staff by their names and they know your favorite orders. The menu will give you a plethora of choices in coffee but you won’t find flavoured coffee. No Hazelnut or va...

Tripping with Coffee

This time, I do not come up with memories! No, I have not run out of them! I am doing some serious thinking on where my relationship with coffee is headed. I realize that it’s time to discuss what we want from life! No, I am not breaking up with Coffee but am just looking at ways to spice up our relationship. After a lot of thought, I feel a trip together will help strengthen the relationship. Of course coffee was a part of all my previous trips but it was just a PART! This time, I would want to go only with Coffee and have no one disturb us and I have selected the perfect location for this trip – Melbourne! A lot of people would wonder why Melbourne! You will think Australia is a place for deep sea diving, seeing some awesome coral reef and even surfing in some of the best waves in the world but COFFEE? Well for all those who don’t know a lot about Melbourne, here is some reasoning into why I would take my first trip with coffee to Melbourne. Melbourne is known for its ...
